The key email from Dan Miller of Young Professionals UK
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to let you all know about an exciting event we are running on the 20th November at the Pride Park Stadium. We are running our next large scale apprenticeship event for 1,000+ post 16 students across the East Midlands. Just after 2 weeks of promotion we signed up over 800 kids from across 18 different schools. Arriva Busses are transporting all the students in for us and Experian are Headlining the Event with us. Other brands that are also confirmed up are; IBM, EY, BDO, Barclays, Pearson and Sodexo. DCFC are also playing a big part on the day for the students, Frank Lampard I've been told may show up!
Our events are not your typical careers fair, they are workshop based along with talks and presentations all throughout the day. Every student will be using our Young Professionals App (the only school and college leaver employment app in the market place) on the day and at the end of the event we can share this data with you to help with your talent acquisition pipelines.
If you'd like to get involved or want to find out more, please get in touch.
Best Regards Dan Miller

Public Sector: Apprenticeships Work at NTU
Wednesday 7 March, 1 pm - 3.30 pm
There's long been an association with apprenticeships - that only certain businesses and industries stand to benefit from investing in apprentices. However, with the introduction of the mandatory apprenticeship levy, the funding and additional incentive opportunities available to SMEs, and the variety of apprenticeships on offer, more businesses are beginning to realise the potential of apprenticeships.
At NTU we're planning to expand our apprenticeship portfolio further, with the intention of launching courses in areas such as Healthcare Science Practitioner*, Further Education Learning and Skills Teacher*, Healthcare Assistant Practitioner*, Police Constable*, Social Worker*, Registered Nurse*, and Teacher*.
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2018, we'd like to invite you to a free event specially tailored to the needs of those working within the public sector, looking to learn more about how degree apprenticeships can work for their organisations.
This event will explore the relevant apprenticeships on offer and in development at NTU, and offer practical advice and guidance regarding the challenges and opportunities apprenticeships within the public sector present. As well as this, attendees can have one-on-one sessions with academics and members of the apprenticeship team, and network with other employers.
We anticipate this event will be popular, so don't hesitate to book your place.
At the Dec D2N2 Compact SG meeting the members decided that we should be working more closely with our Universities. Contact has since been made and now the University of Nottingham have joined the Compact and the University of Derby and Nottingham Trent Uni are expected to follow suit. Also the May good practice event will be themed around 'working with the Universities' ... watch this space !

Good Morning Chris
We would certainly welcome your participation in the Work Experience Steering Group. We are still taking nominations.
We would also welcome any additional support you can garner from you wider membership including any promotion you can engineer – all would be grateful.
I have included a blurb below for you to circulate to members. I will be in touch will all individuals that have expressed an interest this week/next week to convene a meeting.
Young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s (N2) disadvantaged communities are not getting enough high quality work experience – What is the Challenge?
Action - We need your support to develop an N2 Work Experience Steering Group
I envisage that following the first meeting, much of this activity can be driven remotely, however to kick things off we would really appreciate employers joining the conversation so that we can embed employer need at the heart of this work.
If you would like to join the N2 Work Experience Steering Group please email owen.harvey@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or call me on 0115 8762820
Thanks again for your support.
Kind Regards
Owen Harvey

Thanks Julie!
The D2N2 Compact has 3 working groups. The 'Big Event' group and 'Training Product' working group both met last week and the meetings were very productive. The notes from the meetings are available for download via this link
The third group, 'horizon scanning', met yesterday and the notes will be made available soon.
The ‘Big Event’ is designed to promote the public service sector as an employer of choice for people who are considering a career move or a new career and have not previously considered the public sector as an attractive proposition. The target audience is people who are considering a career move or a new career and have not previously considered the public sector as an attractive proposition. It is expected that most of the attendees would be young people and their families.
The format of the event will be a 4 hour event running from 1200 to 1600 on a drop in as and when basis. A key note speaker (or speakers) will deliver an address at 1230 and 1430 to provide some context to the event. The rest of the event will be supported by stallholders who will be drawn from the training provider network, the public sector employers in the D2N2 footprint and the trade unions. The stallholders will be invited to make their stalls interactive so that an attendee would have variety of activities that they could engage with to make it both enjoyable and useful.
More details as they emerge will be posted on the news section of this web site
Yesterday the D2N2 'Big Event' sub group decided that the event will take place in mid February 2017 and will be an interactive, workshop based event with a high profile keynote speaker. The event is designed to promote the public sector as an employer of choice.
Also yesterday the 'Training Product' sub group met and have committed to producing an Apprenticeship framework study module on 'working in the public sector'. Both groups will report progress to the Steering Group in Dec. Keep visiting this news feed for more details as things progress.
The 'Big Event' sub group and the 'Training Product' sub group are both meeting tomorrow. Come back here on Wed for feedback on what was agreed / discussed. The third sub group (Horizon Scanning) is meeting next week. Again, feedback from this meeting will be posted on this site following the meeting

Following registration there is the facility to submit questions that will be addressed in the webinar. Many thanks to Adam Barnes at Babington for hosting the webinar and for kindly inviting members of both the Greater Lincolnshire and the D2N2 Public Service Compacts to attend.
This event was held at the East Midlands Conference Centre on 31/3/16. It was a chance for all Public Sector Departments and Local Authorities to find out about The Apprenticeship Levy and Public Sector Targets and begin to engage / plan for how their organisations can get the most value for money and return on investment.
I attended on behalf of the two East Midlands Public Service Compacts. I know many of you were there on the day, but for those who weren’t, the presentations are now in the 'Resources' section of this website. There was also a long list of unanswered questions from the floor, which SFA / BIS hope to answer by the end of June.
The D2N2 event on 29th June will be on the subject of ‘The Changing Face of Apprenticeships’ and I am hoping by then we will have some more answers. Check out the 'Next Event' section for more information. We are also planning a webinar to follow up on the event which Adam Barnes at Babington Group has kindly agreed to host. More details of this in the 'Next Event' section.
