02/08/2019   Joined up CAREers in Derbyshire!

 What we do

Joined up Careers Derbyshire works in partnership with health organisations and local authorities to support the current and future workforce in system wide initiatives including workforce development, recruitment and retention as well as promoting career and employment opportunities throughout the city and county.

We play an active role within schools and colleges, workplaces, and the wider community, promoting all that is best about working in health and social care.  For young people we offer enrichment workshops (practical, interactive sessions that complement the health and social care curriculum), mock interviews (helping prepare students for the world of work), and one-to-one careers coaching.  We also deliver workshops in specialist areas such as values, maths in a care setting, first aid, safeguarding, and dementia to students. In the last six months, more than 20 careers events and job fairs have been held attracting 14,000 people.

We work with private, voluntary and independent organisations to provide tailored support on workforce priorities, including targeted recruitment campaigns, sharing best practice, and identifying opportunities for workforce development.

In conjunction with the D2 Local Economic Partnership, Joined up Careers offers a system-wide approach to inclusive recruitment and support for social mobility.  We have teamed up with Job Centre Plus and the Department for Work and Pensions to run ‘sector based work academies’ providing work placements, training and employment opportunities for jobseekers.

In September 2018 we launched an innovative integrated health and social care apprenticeship pilot. This programme is offering individuals a 15-month rotational apprenticeship scheme across health and social care organisations, including primary care and private and voluntary organisations. Apprentices receive on-the-job training and will qualify for a care certificate and level two apprenticeship in health and social care.

To support the Derbyshire ‘Model of Care’ and the new NHS Long Term Plan, Joined up Careers Derbyshire is working with local organisations to re-design care aimed at developing fully integrated, community-based care across the city and county. We are working with key stakeholders to support integrated ‘place’ teams to create new roles which will reduce pressure on hospital services and boost out-of-hospital care.
